How Did the Soundtracks We Know from Chaves and Chapolin Come to Be?

Produced by the Mexican group Televisa, the series were adapted for Brazilian audiences by the dubbing studio MAGA. Due to technical reasons, much of the original content was re-soundtracked. In the case of the music, tracks from Bruton Music were incorporated, especially from the albums Kids and Cartoons and Comedy Situations. These compilations featured works by British composers such as John Fiddy, Tony Hymas, Alan Hawkshaw and Tony Hiller.

Universal Production Music teamed up with the Vila do Chaves channel to share this story and created a top 10 list of the most-streamed songs. Check out the video below:

Learn More About the Composers

John Fiddy

John Charles Fiddy was a British guitarist, bassist and composer, widely active in the field of production music. He began his career as a session musician and, throughout the 1970s and 1980s, gained recognition for compositions ranging from easy listening to sophisticated instrumental funk. He worked as a producer and arranger for labels such as Bruton Music, where he developed soundtracks widely used in television shows, advertising, and series. He is remembered as one of the central figures in what became known in the UK as “production music”.

Tony Hymas

Anthony James Keith “Tony” Hymas is an English keyboardist, pianist and composer with a solid career in popular and instrumental music. In the 1980s, he formed the band Ph.D., which reached the UK Top 10 in 1982 with the song I Won’t Let You Down. He also worked as a studio musician and arranger. His collaboration with Jeff Beck resulted in two landmark albums: There & Back (1980) and Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop (1989). In addition to rock and pop, Hymas composed music for soundtracks and music libraries, establishing himself as a versatile and respected artist.

Alan Hawkshaw

Alan Hawkshaw was a British composer, pianist and arranger known for his versatility and musical refinement. He composed music for more than 35 films and countless television programmes, and stood out as one of the leading figures in library music during the 1960s and 1970s. His instrumental works, many of them released by labels such as KPM and Bruton Music, became common features in commercials, series and news broadcasts. Beyond his composing career, Hawkshaw was also a respected jazz pianist and improviser, blending melodic sophistication, sharp rhythm and an exceptional talent for orchestral arrangements.

Tony Hiller

Tony Hiller was a British composer, producer and publisher whose career was marked by commercial success and a constant presence in popular music during the 1970s and 1980s. As the founder and mentor of the group Brotherhood of Man, he achieved international fame with Save Your Kisses for Me, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 and one of the UK’s best-selling singles that year. His song United We Stand (1970) became an anthem of unity and was recorded by over 100 artists. Hiller composed or co-wrote around 1,500 songs, recorded by artists such as Elton John, Olivia Newton-John and Andy Williams. He also had a notable presence in audiovisual productions, with tracks featured in television shows, sports events, and even compositions dedicated to football clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool.
