We spoke with composer and artist Georgia Winter to discuss the creative process and musical influences behind Georgia's latest album, ‘Here & Now’, the role of emotion in music, and challenges faced along the way.

Emerging from Universal Production Music’s 100% HER mentorship programme, Georgia Winter represents a new generation of composers shaping the future of music for media. The 100% HER initiative, which champions female and non-binary talent, has supported Georgia’s development as a distinctive voice in contemporary composition.

Georgia’s work blends subtle textures with expressive melodic writing, creating indie pop music that feels both intimate and cinematic. Georgia’s approach is grounded in sonic storytelling, with each piece carefully crafted to support narratives across film, television and branded content.

In conversation, Georgia reflects on the importance of authenticity and emotion in composition. This allows each piece to connect across a wide range of visual contexts, bringing depth and cohesion to the projects it supports.

Collaboration plays a key role in this approach. Whether responding to a brief or working closely with creative teams, each project is treated as a dialogue. By understanding the emotional direction of a scene or campaign, the resulting music enhances the narrative without overwhelming it.

Explore Georgia’s latest album, Here & Now, which is within the indie genre, incorporating 80s influence, soul and introspective upbeat moments.

Girlfriends

Looking ahead, Georgia Winter is now also one half of Girlfriends, a songwriting and production duo with Francesca Everly. Working across pop, indie, electronic and commercial music, Girlfriends create for both artists and sync, with a focus on strong hooks and contemporary production.

The duo’s work spans independent releases, major platforms and global campaigns, with music featured across BBC, Netflix and ITV, including programmes such as Love Island, Celebrity Big Brother and Love Is Blind.
